The lead setter will be responsible for overseeing and carrying out efficient machine setups and tool changes whilst optimizing the machines for maximum efficiency, quality and output. You will lead a small team of setters and tool slingers acting as key point of contact on shift, ensuring compliance with health and safety and production targets.
Main List of Activities
Attend and have an active input into the daily production meeting
Make sure the machines are running to the required cycle times
Timely reporting of machine breakdowns / faults to the General Production Manager/Planner
Lead and mentor a team of setters, tool slingers and apprentices through allocation of daily tasks
Monitor performance and implement training and development plans
Work with General Production Manager to introduce good working practices
Follow the production plan and make sure if any changes are made the reasons are logged
To ensure that clear instruction and directions are given to the team
Accurate and detailed recording of reasons for downtime
Ensure scrap is removed by the correct method / procedure
Ensure the teams' adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations including PPE requirements
Ensure a safe, clean and tidy work environment is consistently maintained
To ensure that fair and firm discipline is maintained and that the company discipline and grievance procedure is adhered to
Complete instructions set by the General Production Manager

Good mechanical and engineering knowledge - 4/5 years' experience as a setter (plastic injection moulding industry ideally).
Experience leading or mentoring a team with a working knowledge of discipline, performance management and grievance procedures.
Desirable Qualifications (Not necessary).
Relevant degree - Engineering/Manufacturing or related area

S/NVQ in Performing Manufacturing Operations L2
S/NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations L2
S/NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations L2 OR
Engineering Apprenticeship to include a L2 S/NVQ (e.g. Materials Processing and Finishing) and a L2 'Technical Certificate' (e.g. Progression Award in Production Engineering: Composites) AND Related Job Experience.
