Learning and Engagement Officer - Part Time FTC

About the Role

We are expanding our learning and outreach offer for post-16 learners and automotive college students. As part of the Learning and Outreach Strategy Team, you will help develop and deliver our Heritage Automotive Skills programme -- a series of modular resources and practical sessions exploring heritage automotive engineering, design, technology, and related careers.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across Learning, Visitor Experience, and Development to design, test, and deliver engaging activities that inspire the next generation of engineers. The role also involves working with colleges, employers, and industry specialists to ensure content reflects both heritage and modern engineering practice, and supporting the Museum's Young Engineers Club. You will work closely with other Museum departments to ensure a seamless, integrated approach to learning, outreach, and careers engagement, supported by a dedicated team of education volunteers.

Haynes Motor Museum was established in 1985 by John Haynes OBE and is home to the UK's largest exhibition of cars and motorbikes dating from 1898 to the present day.

We are an independent UK charity. All proceeds go towards delivering learning activities to inspire current and future generations as well as conserving and preserving our motoring heritage collection. In support of the charity, the Museum also operates a Trading Company which comprises: Haynes Heritage Engineering, Conference and Events, Cafe 750 & the Museum Shop which operates an online shop.

About you

We are looking to recruit a professional with a passion for developing and delivering successful informal and formal learning activities, both on-site and through outreach. You will have enthusiasm for inspiring curiosity and engagement, an interest in heritage automotive engineering as well as experience working with post 16 learners. We are also looking for someone who is able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.

This is the ideal time to join the team where you can help to shape and grow the learning and engagement activities at the Museum and work towards our aim of being a STEM hub for the South West.

Responsibilities of the Role

You will develop our learning and outreach programme for both formal and informal activities for post 16 learners. You will plan and deliver learning activities, including college visits, extra curricular activities and outreach programmes.

Develop and deliver excellent informal and curriculum-linked formal learning activities for post 16 learnersusing the Collections as inspiration Widen Museum engagement by facilitating activities, including outreach, for local colleges Contribute to the work of the Learning and Outreach strategy working group, helping to shape our learning plans over the coming years and then delivering the actions from the strategy Create and maintain learning resources for post 16 learners Monitor and evaluate learning activities to report of activities and implement improvements to better meet the needs of learnerse Comply with all safeguarding legislation, risk management documentation and Health and safety policies Create and maintain learning resources for a variety of our audiences Monitor and evaluate learning activities to report of activities and implement improvements to better meet the needs of learners Comply with all safeguarding legislation, risk management documentation and Health and safety policies Additional weekend duty managing days can be available for this role

Experience & Skills

Skills - Essential

Hours & Structure

Salary

is 27,000 -29,000 FTE per annum dependent on experience

Location

The Museum is based in Sparkford, Somerset BA22 7LH, just minutes off the A303, the main trunk road to the South West.??This role will be based at the Museum, with occasional off-site visits for outreach activities.

Contract

- This is a 12-month fixed-term contract from 5 January 2026 to 4 January 2027, with the potential for extension subject to future funding. The post is part-time (15 hours per week), worked across two to three days, which may include some weekend days. These weekend duties may occasionally involve duty management of the site.

You will report directly to the Curator and work collaboratively with colleagues across other departments on a daily basis.
