Role Overview:



We're looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Learning & Technology Director to lead the strategic and operational development of our digital learning ecosystem and technology infrastructure.

You will oversee the full spectrum of learning technology, digital programme delivery, IT operations , , applications development and systems architecture; building a coherent, future-ready technology environment that supports both our academic mission and organisational growth.

This role sits at the intersection of pedagogy, technology, digital innovation, and enterprise IT, and is ideal for someone who can think strategically while also ensuring robust day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities



Learning Technology leadership

Develop and deliver Walbrook's digital learning strategy, ensuring our online programmes are engaging, effective, and built on strong pedagogical principles and deliver the best outcomes for students. Oversee the optimisation of learning platforms (LMS/VLE, assessment systems, content tools, analytics solutions). Partner with academic teams to design and enhance online learning experiences that are accessible, consistent, and high quality. Lead innovation in online learning, including AI-supported learning tools, personalisation, assessment, and data-driven enhancement. Ensure that all digital learning materials meet regulatory, accessibility, and quality standards.
Digital delivery & online operations

Lead the operational delivery of online programmes, ensuring platforms and processes run seamlessly for students and academic staff. Oversee course builds, releases, and ongoing maintenance of digital learning environments. Manage student-facing digital support processes, ensuring timely resolution of platform and access issues. Monitor performance and engagement data to improve student outcomes, academic effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
IT operations, applications development & systems architecture

Oversee all operational IT, including networks, devices, and technology support. Facilitate the development of new functionality to the Walbrook application estate, ensuring the organisation meets its strategic goals. Facilitate the design and maintenance of a coherent, robust and extensible systems and applications architecture that aligns academic, administrative, and business functions. Lead data governance, systems integration and workflow automation Manage relationships with external technology partners and vendors Ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of all technology platforms.
Leadership & collaboration

Lead and develop teams across learning technology, digital content, IT support, and applications development. Work closely with academic leaders, operations teams, and student services to ensure technology enhances teaching, learning, and student experience. Contribute to senior leadership discussions and strategic planning across the organisation. Champion a culture of innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement.

Skills and Qualifications:



Essential

Significant experience in leading online learning development and delivery at scale. In-depth knowledge of LMS/VLE platforms, learning tools, online assessment systems, and digital content workflows. Strong experience in IT leadership, including infrastructure, application development, systems architecture, integrations and data management. Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams across technical and digital domains. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong project and change management capability, with experience delivering complex technology initiatives.
Desirable

Familiarity with AI-driven learning tools, analytics platforms, or adaptive learning systems. Experience delivering enterprise system implementations or digital transformation programmes. Relevant qualifications (e.g., ITIL, PRINCE2, CMALT, MSc in Education/Technology/IT).
