Lecturer (education) In Ancient History

Job Description

We seek to recruit a Lecturer (Education) in Ancient History, from 5th January 2026 to 4th January 2027. This 12-month post will involve teaching and supervising at undergraduate and postgraduate level in ancient history, as well as contributing to the School's administration activity. In particular, cover is required for teaching undergraduate modules on the topics of 'Alexander the Great' and 'The Ancient City'.
The School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics is one of the largest and most diverse Schools at the University, exploring culture and society from the origins of humanity and ancient history to contemporary debates around politics and government. We are also home to a number of research centres, such as the Centre for Public History, which bring together clusters of research conducted by academics in the school and beyond.
About the person:
As the successful candidate, you will have the following:

  • Have, or be near to completion, a PhD in Ancient History or cognate subject.
  • An ability to contribute to teaching the department's required modules in Ancient History.
  • Research output development in ancient history, appropriate to stage of career.
  • An ability to carry out administrative duties appropriate to post.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to work as an effective team member.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
