You will be working in an internationally leading multi-disciplinary group with a research and teaching portfolio covering energy studies including electricity generation, demand reductions, cities and infrastructure and environmental impacts (www.energy.soton.ac.uk).

About the role




We are seeking a Lecturer to deliver on built environment research and teaching and linking with ongoing University-wide activities in sustainability and AI. We are looking for individuals who will enhance our research, teaching and enterprise capabilities in:

Energy in the built environment with emphasis on 'micro-scale' building physics and 'macroscale' energy modelling. Architectural and urban design and climate change impacts on buildings. Evidence of an understanding of the relationship between the above areas at building, city and regional scales. Proficiency in data-driven methods (statistics, ML, AI) with applications to energy and built environment problems and programming languages e.g. Python, R, Matlab, C# etc applied at highlighted scales.

About you




We welcome applicants with experience from a broad range of backgrounds, including architecture, engineering, physics and statistical analysis. You will be someone who wants to work in a collaborative team environment, makes use of our world-leading facilities and have a passion for mentoring junior staff and PhD researchers. You will have a higher degree related to energy in the built environment or related discipline with the capability to teach students through lectures, small groups and lab classes. If required, training towards a teaching qualification will be provided as part of the role. It is desirable that you have Chartered Engineer status.


You should have a proven ability or potential to generate high quality publications and attract research/enterprise funding. Highly organised, with excellent communication skills, you'll be ready to manage activities, motivate colleagues and contribute to the leadership of the Department/School.
