  • discover new ways to design stronger, lighter ships;
  • apply AI and ML techniques to the future digitilisation of maritime engineering from design; production, through to fleet operation;
  • make use of facilities such as our fully equipped 138 m Boldrewood wave/towing tank and new state-of-the-art large structures and materials testing laboratories all on the Boldrewood Innovation campus;
  • explore the future of lean crewed and autonomous vessels from subsea robots through to the largest ships;
  • look for sustainable solutions to accessing marine renewables and other ocean resources;
  • find a decarbonised and emission free future for world shipping;
We are a team that ensures that our student cohort are educated to the highest of standards and are looking for individuals who want to keep our programmes and modules at the cutting edge of maritime engineering education while sustaining our high student satisfaction.

To make the most of this exciting role, you will need a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience) in a relevant area of maritime engineering along with a track-record of published research. You will be eligible for a Fellowship of the HEA due to your past involvement in the development and delivery of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level or supported to achieve this at Southampton. You\xe2\x80\x99ll have a proven ability to develop innovative research proposals and attract research funding. Highly organised, with strong communication skills, you\xe2\x80\x99ll be ready to manage and motivate others.
