The School of Arts supports five successful and dynamic departments: Music, Film and TV, Theatre, Anthropology and Archaeology, and Philosophy and we are looking to appoint a talented Lecturer in Music at 0.7FTE from 1 January 2026 until 31 July 2026. You will have experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate musicology units, assessing student work in a variety of formats, and examining student recitals. You will deliver lectures and seminars at undergraduate and MA level, mark written work and recitals, supervise and mark undergraduate and MA dissertations, undertake any necessary teaching-related administration, and provide tutorial support to students.
What will you be doing?

You will be expected to contribute actively to the Department of Music's ongoing teaching and administration with duties including the following:
Contribute to first-year BA units Music and Society 2: Music and People and Performance (music criticism pathway)* Contribute to the MA unit Readings and Repertoires 2(research-led teaching), with an emphasis on musicological and perhaps performance-related topics.
Examine student recitals at all levels
Supervise and mark undergraduate and MA dissertations.
Act as personal tutor for a group of BA students.
Take on academic administrative duties as needed within the department.
Direct student ensembles and lead student performance workshops.
You should apply if

You have a completed PhD in Musicology/ Music History, and any corrections have also been completed.
You have recent and current experience of, and expertise in musicology teaching at BA and MA levels, including marking and assessment.
You have experience of examining university recitals or similar (e.g. ABRSM examining, sitting on audition panels, etc)
You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
You have fully fluent English, and proven ability to advise students in detail on their academic written expression in English.
