Job Overview:
Scholars School System is seeking to appoint a
Lecturer in Sport Business Management
to support the delivery of an undergraduate programme in partnership with Plymouth Marjon University. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in teaching, learning, and curriculum enhancement, with a strong emphasis on fostering student academic success across sport business, sport marketing, event management, and policy-related sectors.
The Lecturer will contribute to the continuous improvement of student outcomes by embedding employability, reflective practice, and real-world application into the learning experience. They will champion programme innovation through the integration of industry trends, digital tools, and interdisciplinary approaches that align with institutional priorities and sector expectations.
In addition to teaching excellence, the postholder will engage in research and scholarship activities that inform pedagogy, advance knowledge in sport business management, and contribute to the school's academic profile. They will collaborate with colleagues across the institution to enhance academic standards, support student progression, and contribute to the school's strategic aims and values of inclusion, integrity, and professional development.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality teaching across a range of Sports Management modules (e.g., Sport Business, Sport Marketing, Event Management, and Sport Governance).
Support the academic journey of students, ensuring accurate record-keeping, monitoring of progression, and effective pastoral support.
Act as deputy module lead or module lead, maintaining academic quality and contributing to curriculum design and innovation.
Contribute to assessment design, marking, and moderation in accordance with SSS's quality assurance processes.
Develop learning resources that reflect current industry practice and promote applied learning experiences, such as case studies, simulations, and live projects.
Integrate employability and industry relevance into teaching by building and maintaining partnerships with sport organisations and governing bodies.
Engage in scholarly activity, research, or professional practice to inform teaching and maintain subject currency.
Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum reviews, and student feedback sessions to ensure continuous improvement.
Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all teaching and learning activities.
Undertake academic administration and contribute to cross-campus teaching and collaboration as required.

Qualifications
Master's degree (MSc) in Sport Management, Sport Business, or a closely related discipline - Essential* PhD or EdD in a relevant discipline - Desirable* Higher Education teaching qualification (PGCert, SFHEA, AFHEA, or FHEA) - Essential* Relevant professional or industry accreditation (e.g., CIMSPA, BASES) - Desirable*
Skills & Experience
Minimum of two years' experience teaching, training, or professional practice in the sports industry within the UK - Essential* Experience of delivering learning in Higher Education - Essential* Experience incorporating applied learning or real-world projects - Desirable* Experience of module leadership and academic administration - Desirable* Experience integrating applied learning and reflective practice in teaching - Desirable* Proficiency in using virtual learning environments (e.g., Moodle, Canvas), digital tools, and blended learning methodologies
Knowledge of formative and summative assessment methods, marking criteria, and feedback strategies that support student learning
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to varied audiences
Benefits and Terms of Employment:
The salary for this role ranges from 30,000 to 35,000 depending on the candidate's level of experience.
Up to 5k annual incentives (pro-rata) given quarterly on meeting KPIs and after successful completion of probation period
Basic hours are 40 per week on site
Holiday entitlement is 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
5% annual increase per year on completion from your start date of service and on meeting KPIs
Complimentary lunch provided on working days
Where staff training, development or meeting trips are located at another campus, all travel expenses are reimbursed.
