Whether you\'re pursuing a new career in higher education, returning to work after a career break, or looking to develop existing skills, the University of Southampton is the place to do something truly unique with your expertise.

You\'ll have the scope to create your own opportunities. For example, a colleague joined us in 2017 with an industrial background. Since then, she\'s built a strong publishing record, mentored students, advised industrial partners, and been awarded several research grants. She\'s directed her progress and was promoted to Professor in 2021. She\'s now managing a new interdisciplinary research group and playing a key role in University-level initiatives.

Ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide, we\'re progressive and we push the boundaries of what we\'re teaching our students. We encourage and support our staff to pursue their research and develop enterprise activities. With major sector Centres for Machine Intelligence, Healthcare Technologies and Internet of Things, and the Academic Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security Research and Teaching, our reputation for teaching, research and enterprise is exceptional.

You\'ll need a PhD, or equivalent professional qualifications, with extensive research experience and a collaborative approach to working across research areas. It\'s not essential that you have teaching experience, but you must be confident to inspire students. We\'ll support you to develop your skills and keep making progress.

Athena SWAN bronze award recognised, we\'re committed to improving equality for women in science and engineering. We\'ll help you find work-life balance with flexible or part-time working, with workload adjusted accordingly. ECS provides unique and supportive environment. We have staff development programmes and mentoring and wellbeing schemes. Visit and for more details.

This is an exciting place to work and shape your future.
