About the role
We are seeking a clinician-educator to join our team as a Lecturer (Teaching). In this role, you will work closely with the MBBS Senior Leadership Team and Year 1 and 2 Academic Leads to support and enhance the early years of the MBBS programme through curriculum and assessment design, innovative teaching methods, and digital learning development.
You will collaborate with colleagues to share good teaching practice, support faculty development activities, and contribute to wider departmental initiatives, including research-informed education, public engagement, and postgraduate teaching. This role also provides opportunities for ongoing professional development as a medical educator within a supportive and inclusive academic environment.
Appointment details:

  • The post is graded on Grade 8 or CL8. Salary for Grade 8 ranges from 54,931 to 64,644 including London allowance. Salary for CL8 ranges from 57,397 to 65,056.
  • Applicants who work medically at a SAS grade under a separate contract with an NHS Trust or public health body will be placed on UCL's clinical pay scales as per the CL8 grade. They will be expected to join their clinical and this teaching roles under a single contract, as per the Follett Principles.
  • You will be placed on CL8 if jointly combined with a medical role or G8 if standalone teaching position.
  • The appointment is a fixed term contract, available from January 2026 as a maternity cover and is funded for 12 months or until the substantive post holder returns, whichever comes first.
  • Due to the requirements of this role, we are unable to offer working hours below 0.6 FTE.
  • This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.
  • This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
About you
The Lecturer (teaching) will hold a primary medical qualification and full GMC registration, committed to teaching excellence in undergraduate medical education. You'll have experience in teaching and assessment, an understanding of pedagogy, and a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
You are organised, proactive, and able to work independently and collaboratively. Experience using digital learning tools, developing educational resources, or contributing to medical education research is desirable.
You will be enthusiastic about supporting students, promoting good teaching practice, and helping shape the future of medical education at UCL
