Faculty of Environment, Science & Economy

The above full-time permanent post is available immediately in the Centre for Resilience in Environment, Water and Waste (CREWW) in the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy.

Summary of the role

CREWW is an exciting new venture at the University of Exeter, directed by Prof Richard Brazier. Funded by a grant from Research England and investment by South West Water and the University of Exeter. CREWW has been established to undertake research into some of the most pressing environmental challenges in our time - namely how we can manage our precious natural resources in ways which are sustainable and resilient under the pressures of habitat degradation, climate change and population growth.

CREWW research focuses on pressing issues facing environmental resilience and the water and waste sectors, including:

  • How to manage people and land to deliver environmental resilience
  • Understanding how catchments and people respond to flooding and drought, to improve future resilience.
  • How to understand and motivate people to be agents of positive environmental change
  • How to protect drinking and bathing waters from contamination
  • Ensuring we have enough water to cope with a growing population and climate change
  • Protecting the water supply network
  • Predicting and preventing contaminants from the waste and water networks
CREWW research is undertaken by academics who work with partners in industry, government and NGOs, to develop a shared understanding of the issues and practical solutions which will benefit the environment, society and economy.

The candidate will:
  • Fulfil research, teaching and administration duties as a lecturer/senior lecturer in nature based solutions within the Centre for Resilience in Environment, Water and Waste (CREWW) in the Department of Geography.
  • With regard to teaching, specifically, to contribute teaching and student support within the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy, in terms of water-industry specific content and wider issues related to the carbon cycle including climate change adaptation, vegetation change and bioremediation, landscape and ecosystem restoration, habitat change and land use/management.
For a Lecturer post you will have:
  • A PhD or equivalent in a related area and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant active field of research
  • A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrate potential to attract such funding
  • An active approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research
  • Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate programmes
  • Strong connections and funded projects with business and community partners
  • Involvement in projects which develop impact.
For Senior Lecturer, in addition to the above, you will have:
  • A strong potential for research leadership
  • A track record in refereed publications and success in significant grant capture
  • Relationships with external organisations and funders/ and knowledge and experience of key sectors or business challenges

The starting salary will be from \xc2\xa341,732 on Grade F for the Lecturer role, and from \xc2\xa348,350 on Grade G for the Senior Lecturer role, depending on qualifications and experience.
