This role provides an exciting and unusual opportunity to contribute to the development of new teaching and research in aspects of the educational, historical and philosophical foundations of Computer Science. The role is motivated by several established and innovative developments at Swansea, for example:

  • A new BSc degree in Digital Technology with its combination of technical knowledge with reflection and engagement with the effects and implications of computing.
  • A cross disciplinary research theme on educational, historical and philosophical aspects of the digital world.
  • A major high-impact educational programme designed to reach out to school pupils, teachers, professionals and citizens, called Technocamps.
  • A unique History of Computing Collection, that is mapping the origins and development of our digital world.
The Computer Science Department at Swansea University is ranked highly for both teaching and research: The Guardian University Guide 2023 placed it 25th in the UK and 1st in Wales. In REF 2021 we are delighted that 90% of our research is world-leading and internationally excellent, and that we achieved 100% world-leading and internationally excellent ratings in impact, showing that as a department we are dedicated to embedding real-world impact in everything we do. The department is home to five research groups: Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Human Computer Interaction, Theoretical Computer Science, and Visual Computing.
