The School of Applied Sciences runs a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the environmental and conservation sciences. This includes the BSc (Hons) Environmental Science, BSc (Hons) Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Science, MSc Applied Wildlife Conservation, MRes Applied Sciences and the new MSc Conservation Leadership.

About the vacancy:
We have a vacancy to join the School of Applied Sciences as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science. The post holder will support students on our environmental and conservation science programmes, by contributing to teaching and learning, and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects across the discipline. The successful applicant will participate in single day and residential environmental science/conservation science field trips. There may also be an opportunity to coordinate field trip activities, depending on experience. Occasionally, our lecturers will be required to support teaching teams in other programmes within the School (e.g. Biological Sciences). There may also be the opportunity to contribute to research within the School, including within one of its research centres, such as the Centre for Sustainable Agri-Food and Environment (SAFE).
This is a full time 12-month (maternity cover) post offered at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, depending on experience. Experience and knowledge of aquatic environmental science (freshwater and/or marine) is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and understanding of oceanography, water quality assessment and more broadly aquatic sciences. Experience of conducting field work and /or organising and running field courses would also be advantageous.
About you:
Candidates will be expected to have a science-based PhD relevant to environmental science or, if from a professional practice background, a Master's qualification together with significant professional practice experience. We are looking for candidates with a background and broad knowledge across environmental science who can deliver teaching on our environmental and conservation science courses, as well as participating in and possibly leading field trips. They should have experience of teaching and assessment at an HEI. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate experience of devising and delivering teaching. Experience of leadership at a module/programme level would be advantageous.
We are looking for candidates who align to the UWE values. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate how they will keep abreast of latest developments in this subject area and external best practice benchmarks.
The successful candidate will be supported in this role by an experienced senior lecturer as a mentor. The School provides staff development funds to support personal and subject related training for academic staff.
