Job Description

We are currently looking to recruit a

Lecturer

or

Senior Lecturer

to join our Law School Academic Team based at our

Newcastle

Campus where we work in partnership with The University of Newcastle

.




For this role, we are seeking a

qualified lawyer (solicitor or barrister)

with experience in practice, to teach on our professional courses. Whilst we are interested in receiving applications from candidates with experience in all areas of law, we are particularly interested in candidates with an interest/background in

civil litigation and advocacy

to teach on our Bar course. We welcome applications from candidates without prior teaching experience and will provide training and support to help you develop your teaching practice.


Reporting into the Newcastle Campus Manager and wider Academic Management Team, you will be providing tuition across The University of Law course portfolio including the

SQE

,

Bar course

,

Law Conversion Programmes

(PGDL and MAL),

LPC, LLB, Professional Skills Course/Professional Development, Academic Masters courses and/or other University courses to the best possible standard.


This role operates on a 5-over-7-day working pattern, which may include evenings and weekends to support our flexible delivery model.

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer

,

you will:




Teach on our courses and act as an academic coach to students, and signpost students on pastoral aspects during their learning journey. Deliver high quality teaching and support for learning, including communication with other academics for the continuous improvement of teaching and student support. Identify the need for developing the content, structure, assessment within modules with colleagues and make proposals on how this should be achieved. Contribute to effective design and review of inclusive learning. Maintain quality standards and regulations in curricular design. Routinely communicate complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers using high level skills.

Sufficient breadth and depth of professional experience in the relevant discipline to develop teaching programmes and learning support Professional, credible, commands respect

Requirements for Lecturer positions:




Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant subject Fellowship of Advance HE (HEA) or equivalent or willingness to work towards
Relevant teaching qualification or willingness to work towards PGCHE


Please note that if you do not currently hold this, it is a requirement of the University that you will enrol into the programme (delivered and financially supported by the University), usually within 12 months of passing probation. Successful completion/qualification is essential to this role.*


Requirements for Senior Lecturer positions:




Postgraduate qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject Fellowship of Advance HE (HEA)*
Relevant teaching qualification*

Senior Lecturers will have developed significant expertise in the application and practical delivery of a range of teaching techniques, pastoral care, mentoring colleagues, assessment design, marking and team leadership.
