School Work Experience at Leeds Bradford Airport

Year 10 & Year 11 Students | Spring / Summer 2026

Leeds Bradford Airport is offering a small number of school work experience placements for Year 10 and Year 11 students who are curious about aviation and keen to gain their first insight into working in a live airport environment.

Our work experience programme is designed to give students a realistic, engaging introduction to the aviation industry and help you explore whether a future career in this sector could be right for you.

What Your Week Will Feel Like

This is a hands-on, immersive experience based at a working airport. Your week will begin with an induction covering health and safety, how the airport operates, and what to expect during your placement. From there, you'll spend time observing and learning from different teams across the airport, gaining a real understanding of how a complex operation works as one.


Across the week, you'll experience the pace, professionalism, and variety of airport life. You'll see how aircraft movements are managed, how passengers are kept safe, how teams support customers throughout their journey, and how the airport is maintained and operated every day. Each day will be structured and supported, and you'll finish the week with time to reflect on what you've learned and experienced.

Departments You Will Experience

During your placement, you'll have the opportunity to spend time with a range of airport teams, which may include:

Air Traffic Control, where aircraft movements are coordinated and managed Security, learning how passengers and the airport are kept safe Customer Experience, supporting passengers throughout their journey Engineering, gaining insight into how airport infrastructure is maintained Environment and Sustainability, exploring how the airport reduces its environmental impact Airside Operations, seeing how aircraft are turned around safely and efficiently Fire and Terminal Operations, understanding emergency response and terminal management

Who This Opportunity Is For

This programme is aimed at Year 10 and Year 11 students completing a school-arranged work experience week who have a genuine interest in airports, aircraft, and the aviation industry. No previous experience is required; curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to engage in a professional working environment are what matter most.

A Competitive Application Process

Work experience at Leeds Bradford Airport is extremely popular, and we receive far more applications than the number of places available. Due to the operational nature of the airport, only a very limited number of students can be accommodated during Spring and Summer 2026.


All applicants must apply through this advert and attend an interview in March. Successful candidates will then provide the work experience week allocated by their school, and placements will be organised accordingly.
