The Customer Operations Legal Services team manages an assigned caseload resulting from the finance business of Moneybarn. Cases are managed in-house by the team, with only complex or defended litigation being passed to either the Senior Assistants or external practices. The workload is split amongst the team members.

The working environment is commercial, so the ability to work in a multi-skilled team is essential. The role will involve corresponding with many customers, different teams and departments, and as such a team player with excellent communication skills is essential. The role will require patience, persistence and an ability to deal with challenging customers, both on the telephone and in writing.

Hybrid working is available in this role. We ask that you attend the office 1-2 days per week. This role is based in Petersfield.

In your day-to-day role, as a Legal Assistant, you will:

  • Responsible for a mixed (mainly litigated) caseload of money claims, return of goods claims, Charging Order, Attachment of Earnings, and Bankruptcies, managing these from inception to conclusion, including but not limited to the issue of proceedings and applications to Court, diarizing of hearing dates and subsequent court directions to ensure Court advocates are properly briefed to attend, collating Court bundles and drafting witness statements for the proceedings as well as general case administration.
  • Responsible for accurate drafting of Court documents (being imperative to the likelihood of success at Court), completing detailed Court applications and other correspondence so as to adhere to Court processes and the CPR.
  • Handle cases from inception to conclusion with minimal supervision. On conclusion of a case, transferring to other relevant teams for the further progression of a customer\'s account or for enforcement if required.
  • Debt recovery work, taking payments and arranging payment plans within agreed parameters as well as the completion of attachment of earnings where necessary.
  • Answering inbound calls and making outbound calls, adhering to DPA and internal standards of call quality.
  • Uploading new cases onto the Case management system and the ownership and progression thereof.
Qualifications

  • Competent Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel)
  • An interest in Law, and the finance industry
  • Ideally be familiar with legal terminology
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail, proven decision making
  • Adaptable, flexible and able to multi-task
  • Understanding of Data protection, Anti Money Laundering, Anti-Bribery & Corruption requirements
Desirable:
  • Previous experience working in an FCA regulated environment
  • Law graduate
  • Studying towards a legal qualification, such as a CILEX or a paralegal qualification
  • Experience of working for a Non-standard/specialist lender
  • Experience of dictation typing
