The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) is an award-winning British charity based in London and established in 2001 with a long history of delivering advice, support and integration support for refugees and asylum seekers across the UK. ACAA was founded by Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi, who arrived as a refugee in the back of a refrigerated container with his young family in 1999. The charity has steadily grown and is now the largest Afghan diaspora-led charity in the UK, with 4 offices across the UK - Hounslow, Harrow, Birmingham and Liverpool.
ACAA has a solid reputation for high quality, culturally sensitive services based on utilising the lived experience of its' Director, Trustees, staff and volunteers. Most recently, ACAA has been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Services and the Founder Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi has received both the British Citizens' Award and the MBE. Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi has been awarded the Honorary Doctorate Degree by Royal Holloway.

Key Duties
We are looking for interns/volunteers to join our legal advice team and offer advice and guidance to refugees and migrants. You will work with the Legal Advice Worker to manage the legal clinic. This role would particularly suit a law student or graduate with an interest in family, housing and immigration matters.
To work with lawyers providing pro bono services for our clients.
To help clients with housing, immigration, family and visa issues
To write letters and fill out forms on behalf of clients
To follow up with solicitors about legal support provided to clients
To complete administration work.
To promote and advertise the ACAA's legal services.
To write and proofread external communications.
To write and proof read blog posts and articles.
To work with other volunteers to secure funding for ACAA legal services.
Skills:
Excellent written and spoken English
Working knowledge of basic legal principles
Ability to work in a team
Interest in international affairs and refugee issues
Desirable Criteria
Skills:
A second language, preferably Farsi, Dari or Pashto
Legal and media networking abilities
Experience:
Previous record of working for the charity sector
Previous record of working with migrants
Previous work with a legal advice service or clinic.
