Requirements
1. To hold the NNEB / BTEC / NVQ Level 3 qualification
2. To hold a current first aid certificate and basic food hygiene certificate or be willing to train
3. Have relevant childcare experience
4. Have a pass or equivalent in Maths and English
Duties and Responsibilities
1 Formulate and operate a stimulating programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in your area in conjunction with other staff and the Officer in Charge. This includes planning for all developmental and learning goals / milestones.
2 Work alongside the management and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the nursery is fulfilled.
3 Ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development
4 Be aware of the high profile of the nursery and uphold it's standards at all times.
5 Put into practice and conform to nursery policies and procedures, this includes both operational and staff policies.
6 Foresee the needs of all children including those with special needs and from all backgrounds and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate. This also includes settling and supporting new children in the nursery.
7 Liaise, work with and support the parents as appropriate within the Nursery, also support other family members
8 Develop and maintain good relationships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring needs.
9 Prepare and keep appropriate records for children in your group and institute reviews for parents in conjunction with the Officer in Charge.
10 Respect confidentiality of information received.
11 Promote a safe, secure and hygienic environment at all times whilst maintaining a happy and caring atmosphere. Comply with Health and Safety standards which are appropriate for the needs of young children.
12 Work positively within the team structure and support other staff members whilst promoting a good staff team.
13 Where appropriate, effectively manage other staff to ensure the smooth running of your room
14 Develop your role within the team.
15 Participate in the training programmes of a wide variety of students (i.e. placements and volunteers), by giving guidance and support.
16 Look upon the nursery as a "whole" where can your help be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children
17 Be flexible with working practices of the nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including a willingness to undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc. and other such duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Officer in Charge.
18 Prepare for and attend out of working hours activities e.g. training, staff meetings, summer barbecue, Christmas carol service, etc if required to do so.
19 Keep abreast of any current issues, new thinking & developments in early years practice by attending training as appropriate. Liaise with professional bodies.
20 Ensure correct records are kept e.g. accident book and that the Officer in Charge has initialled the report before the parent receives it.
21 Ensure that all children are collected by someone known to nursery.
