JOB DESCRIPTION



Responsible to:

Head of Service - Youth Work

Fixed term contract:

To the 31st of August 2026

Hours:

12 hours per week. Youth club is held Wednesdays 4pm to 7pm, and other tasks can worked throughout the week remotely.

Benefits:

28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and 1 extra day per year of service up to 5 days, pro rated. Employee pension contribution of 6%. Employee sick leave and family leave benefits.

Salary:

9,360.96 per year (pro-rated for fixed term length) (15 per hour)

Role description:

This is an exciting opportunity to join Base 51, the local charity that has supported young people's wellbeing in Nottinghamshire for more than 30 years, taking an approach that is compassionate, person-centred, and holistic approach. The successful candidate will coordinate our LGBTQIA+ youth club, called OutBurst and, as a member of the youth work team, advocate for Base 51's services to the public to spread the word about the great work we do for young people. The successful candidate will have experience working with young people, planning sessions and coordinating a service.

Job Purpose:



To work as an integral and flexible member of the Base 51 Youth Team with responsibility for assessing the needs and support of all young people and with specific emphasis on those who are or feel they may be: Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual or Transgender and/or Questioning their sexuality/personal identity To ensure a welcoming safe environment for all young people accessing the Base 51 building To be responsible for developing, managing and delivering youth work sessions to a planned programme informed by the needs and with participation of young people To be responsible for the regular data entry of attendance, safeguarding concerns and monitoring data To use digital media to promote their sessions, the work of the organisation and as a "tool" in their engagement with young people To manage day to day safeguarding concerns and make referrals as appropriate working within Base 51 procedures As duty worker on their session to be always responsible for the room, volunteers and the young people To uphold business integrity and reputation in relation to safeguarding of vulnerable groups attending Base 51 The post-holder will work evenings and occasionally some weekends as required

PERSON SPECIFICATION



Qualifications:



No specific qualifications are required, as the importance of experience is acknowledged. Qualifications within youth work would be beneficial, although not essential.

Experience:



Working with children and young people including those who are vulnerable or at risk.

Planning and delivering effective programmes of activity with and for young people.

Working effectively with a range of people, including staff and volunteers.

Knowledge, skills, and competencies:



Ability to positively engage with children and young people in a variety of settings.

Ability to implement and review programmes of work with children and young people.

Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality best practices.

Understanding and implementing the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community, including the struggles faced by young people within the community.

Ability to plan, prioritise and manage own workload.

Ability to motivate others.

Excellent communication skills.

Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including regular evenings and occasional weekends.
