Lgv C Driver (hgv Class 2) / Yard & Site Operative

Stratford-upon-Avon, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

LGV C Driver (HGV Class 2) / Yard & Site Operative required for our logistics, plant and equipment hire company with an outbase in Stratford-upon-Avon. 2+ years experience of LGV C required. Full Moffett forklift training will be provided to the successful applicant.

As a leading provider of concrete barriers and blocks for hire and sale to property sites and highway maintenance schemes throughout the entire UK mainland, we predominantly deliver our own products. In addition to this, we provide general multi-drop haulage with Moffett truck mounted forklifts for other external customers.

We require a committed individual who is customer focussed with excellent attention to detail. This role will involve being primarily responsible for the general housekeeping and stock management of our wide range of products (cleaning, pressure washing, re-painting, repairing and stock counting etc) across our several unmanned yards located across the South of England and into South Wales. The successful candidate will be there to keep these yards running as efficiently as possible, as our articulated lorries and external subcontractor haulier partners regularly visit for loading and unloading. It will also involve driving our 13500kg rated rigid Isuzu beavertail vehicle with a Moffett frequently carried on the rear. Undertaking concrete barrier repositions at sites when our larger vehicles are unable to attend at the requested times by our customers. Occasionally meeting external subcontractor hauliers at our customer's sites and using the Moffett carried on the rigid vehicle to unload/load, when we're undertaking deliveries and collections. Bolting of concrete barriers and setting up of concrete ballasted temporary steel barrier gates on these sites will often be required. Installing and dismantling temporary fencing panels, mainly on our customers vacant property sites where we provide our site perimeter security equipment will also be required. It is a very physical job, with driving opportunities being minimal. Working in all weather conditions. The ability to interpret maps and plans for the placing of barriers and blocks is essential. In addition to this, the successful candidate must be able to work both under their own initiative and as part of a team. Full training will be provided. Flexibility and a strong work ethic is required.

Start times vary: typically between 0500hrs and 0700hrs with working days initially being: Monday to Friday. The days and hours worked may change at any time in the future to meet business requirements, if required.

40 hours minimum per week - based on 5 weekdays. Plenty of overtime, both during the week and at the weekend, is also available and is a requirement of the job.

Rates are as follows (all shifts with paid breaks) and vary based upon length of service;

17.00-18.00 per hour on weekdays (*enhanced rate of 20.00 per hour for any hours worked after 2000hrs and before 0600hrs).

19.00-20.00 per hour on Saturdays.

22.00-23.00 per hour on Sundays.

Night out allowance 28.00. Although nights out for this particular role will generally be quite limited in frequency, in comparison to our other members of staff working as LGV C+E Driver/Operatives. Probably only 1 per week on average across the year, with a stay in a hotel, due to the type of vehicle that we operate without a sleeper cab. It will also be subject to our workload.

28 days holiday per year with holiday pay based on previous average earnings. However, for all of 2024-2025 we will also be offering an additional 12 bonus days off with pay based on basic pay, giving a total of 40 days off per annum. These are granted if the job is completed to an acceptable standard every month. This benefit may be extended into future years based on business circumstances at the time.

For employees who reach 2 years or more there is also an additional long service payment of 50 per week.

It is likely that the successful candidate will be required to work out of our main yard in Trafford Park (Manchester), for a period of around 2 weeks or so, to familiarise themselves with our range of products, receive training and begin to understand what is involved and what we expect to meet the requirements of our customers. Accommodation can be provided, if required.

Please apply with a covering letter outlining your present and previous employment (minimum last 5 years), description of duties undertaken including any training and two referees/references.
