Job Overview


The Yellow-Legged Asian Hornet (YLAH) is a highly aggressive predator which poses a significant threat to honey bees and other pollinators in the UK. The British Beekeepers' Association (BBKA) is working with Defra to engage with the public and beekeepers to raise awareness. It is crucial all sightings are reported via the 'Asian Hornet Watch' app so experts can take action to eradicate Yellow-Legged Asian Hornets.

The main focus of the role will be supporting our members with their YLAH activities but could at times switch to other key issues for the BBKA.

This is a developing role, suitable for someone with at least 3 years' experience working in liaison, project management or administration in a busy environment, that demands flexibility and multi-tasking.

You will need proven organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workload accordingly while demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Main Duties & Responsibilities



Working closely with the Yellow-Legged Asian Hornet Committee:

Attend monthly online meetings (evenings) of the YLAH Committee and work with the Committee to implement and drive forward the agreed action plan Attend a weekly communications meeting (daytime) that brings together BBKA stakeholders to share latest YLAH messaging updates Provide updates to our Social Media Manager Organise and attend regular online discussion forums for members (evenings, approx. 6 pa) Act as co-ordinator between BBKA members and the YLAH Committee to build contacts with other organisations Produce, or source, printed and digital resources needed for BBKA associations to support their local awareness campaigns.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities



International Meeting of Young Beekeepers - work with the volunteers who manage the team to publicise and recruit teenage beekeepers, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed and lodged with the organisers Assist with phone calls including providing guidance to the public on swarms Assist in responding to emails sent to central BBKA enquiry mailbox Assist with the despatch of orders from the BBKA web shop Assist with stock checks and receiving deliveries of book (some heavy lifting required) Assist with the administration of training courses including setting up room and equipment. (NB this will include lifting tables and chairs etc).

Person Specification



At least 3 years' experience working in liaison, project management or administration in a busy environment that demands flexibility and multi-tasking A strong communicator (written and verbal) who is comfortable building rapport with a wide range of individuals Excellent report writing and editing skills with an eye for detail and a competent proof reader Excellent organisational, time management and IT skills Must be self-motivated, resilient, and able to act on own initiative whilst also being a good team worker with excellent interpersonal skills Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office is required but training for bespoke software will be provided. Knowledge of beekeeping useful but a strong willingness to learn Happy to work as part of a small team and support colleagues with a diverse range of tasks.
