We have an opportunity to join our Hub Team supporting Street Scene & Regulation Services across Sheffield City Council. Our Hub Teams include Licensing, Planning, Parking Services, Environmental Regulations, Building Control and Hub Service Support. Each area works closely linked services. This opportunity is within the Licensing Team, currently based at Staniforth Road, on a hybrid working basis.



Your key responsibilities and skills will include :




Application Processing:

responsible for the assessment of license applications, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and council policies, processing and issuing licenses within statutory timescales.

Accurate Record Keeping:

Maintaining accurate records and registers which is important for tracking, compliance and reporting.

Public Interaction:

Handling and managing challenging situations. Dealing with technical queries, written and verbal information to the public whilst following legislation and policy is a significant part of the role.

Data Management:

Managing licensing databases using multiple IT packages and bespoke business packages for database management.

Administrative Support:

Providing general administrative assistance, preparing correspondence including references of legislation and policy in a clear written format.

Compliance:

Supporting the enforcement of licensing regulations and maintaining high standards.

Continual Improvement:

Enthusiasm to contribute to the continuous improvement of licensing processes and procedures making a difference to the team and wider council

Working as an authorised officer, you will be working with applications and registrations relating but not limited to: Licensing Act, licensing of private hire and hackney carriage vehicles, operators and drivers, working with General licensing applications covering Street Trading, Charitable, Animal Control, Marriages and other registrations.



The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding and application of legislation and policy with experience of making case referrals to linked service. Desirable skills of giving evidence where required, preparing statements, attending committee or court when required.



Experience of working in a Licensing related role is not essential if relevant transferable skills and experience can be demonstrated.



The successful applicant will be a team player who is motivated to ensure that the day to day operational delivery of the service is kept to the highest standard, whilst maintaining excellent customer care in line with the values of Sheffield City Council.





The role is hybrid working (home and office) with the requirement to be flexible in core hours and support rotas and meet service needs / customer demand. You will be based at Staniforth Road initially, there is a plan in place to move to Howden House in the near future.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
