Princes Primary is a specialist school for children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), autism, and complex needs. Our on-site hydrotherapy pool is a vital part of the curriculum, supporting physical development, therapy, and confidence in water.
We are looking for a dedicated Lifeguard & Pool Plant Operator to join our team and ensure our pupils can enjoy swimming and hydrotherapy safely.
The Role
Supervise all pool sessions, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of pupils, staff, and visitors.
Operate and maintain the pool plant, ensuring excellent water quality and compliance with Health & Safety standards.
Support safe use of specialist equipment (e.g. hoists, floats, chairs).
Work with teaching staff and therapists to create safe, positive swimming experiences.
Keep accurate records of water testing, maintenance, and safety checks.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Qualified: Holds an NPLQ (or equivalent lifesaving qualification) and Pool Plant Operators Certificate.
Safety-Focused: Knowledgeable in water safety, health & safety, and pool compliance.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Training
Current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or equivalent recognised lifesaving qualification.
Pool Plant Operators Certificate (Level 3 or equivalent) or willingness to obtain.
Current First Aid at Work qualification (or willingness to obtain).
Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Experience
Experience of working as a lifeguard or pool plant operator.
Experience of maintaining pool water quality and understanding pool chemistry.
Experience of working with, or supporting, children and young people.
Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation relating to pool operation (e.g. HSG 179, PWTAG guidance).
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
Strong observational skills and ability to maintain concentration.
Ability to communicate effectively with pupils, staff, and external contractors.
Awareness of the needs of children with SLD, autism, physical disabilities, or medical conditions.
Ability to adapt approach to ensure safety, dignity, and inclusion.
