About the Role
We are looking for a Literacy Support Tutor to deliver Read2Succeed, a one-to-one literacy development programme working with adults on probation.
This role is not classroom based. You will work directly with individuals to:
Help them improve reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
Support reading for daily life, such as letters, forms, emails, and job applications.
Build confidence and independence when using written information.
Encourage engagement with further education, volunteering, or employment.
The tutor will work onsite at Leicester Probation Delivery Unit two days per week and onsite at Lincoln Probation Delivery Unit two days per week. One day per week will be remote for planning, reporting, progress reviews, and management information submissions.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver one-to-one sessions tailored to each learner's reading level and goals.
Conduct initial assessments, set Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and complete progress reviews.
Adapt learning materials to support individuals with very low literacy, ESOL needs, or learning differences.
Work collaboratively with Probation Practitioners to support learner attendance and progress.
Submit required data and management information accurately and on time.
Follow all relevant policies, including the HMPPS Information Security Policy Framework and HMPPS Privacy Notice.
All teaching resources, templates, and training are provided.

About You
You will be able to build rapport quickly, motivate reluctant learners, and adapt your teaching style to individual needs.
Must be able to drive with access to a vehicle and commuting insurance, or reliable transport to each unit on each day of work required.
Must live within 1 hour (roughly) from both units to make the commute reasonable.
Essential experience:
Supporting literacy development (in any setting - adult education, support work, tutoring, youth work, etc.)
Confidence delivering 1:1 interventions and tracking learner progress
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable experience:
Working in probation, prison education, or alternative provision
Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred approaches

Working Pattern
Two days per week at Leicester Probation Delivery Unit (onsite delivery)
Two days per week at Lincoln Probation Delivery Unit (onsite delivery)
One day per week remote for planning, reporting, learner follow-up and admin
Travel expenses are reimbursed.

Vetting
Enhanced HMPPS vetting is required. Bhuku Ltd manages and pays for all vetting and compliance requirements.
