Programme Description

What does this team do?

The Tax Litigation, Advisory and Settlement ("LAS") team is recognised as a leading tax disputes team in the UK, with a strong track record of success supporting clients in high-profile cases and complex tax controversies. We act for clients across all sectors, including financial services, real estate, consumer business, energy and technology, media, and telecoms, providing expert support throughout the entire dispute.

Our technical expertise spans a wide range of tax matters, including indirect taxes (such as VAT and customs duties) as well as direct taxes like income and employment taxes, corporate tax, and property tax. Our work covers multi-million-pound tax appeals before UK courts (including judicial review challenges) and leading Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) projects, where disputes are resolved outside of court.

We guide clients through every stage of the process, from preparing appeals to representing them in court hearings before the UK Tribunals and Courts. This involves leading discussions with HMRC and the HMRC's Solicitor's Office to guide our clients through the dispute process, advising on case law and legislative changes. The LAS team works with Deloitte's wider group of tax specialists across multiple industries as well as external stakeholders like leading Kings Counsels ("KCs") and HMRC's tax and legal professionals.
