Working in an agreed geographical area the post-holder will work with their local Maths Hubs to improve progression to study maths at Level 3 with a particular focus on working with teachers to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Main duties and responsibilities
====================================
The Local Lead will carry out duties which include:
Work with Maths Hubs to lead and manage work to improve the GCSE Maths performance of disadvantaged secondary school students with high maths potential
Develop detailed knowledge and insight into progression in maths from KS2 to Level 3 in their geographical area.
Provide leadership to target schools in their geographical area to inspire secondary schools to prioritise high attainment and progression in maths.
Work closely with the post 16 leads for the Maths Hubs in their area to Engage schools and colleges with priority support focused on enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds with high maths potential to achieve - high grades in GCSE Maths.
Provide information and promote the AMSP and other appropriate support to schools and colleges.
Support secondary schools with significant levels of students from disadvantaged backgrounds to increase the numbers of students achieving high grades at GCSE
Work directly with maths departments in target schools to develop their curriculum and pedagogy to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds with high maths potential at KS2 to achieve - high grades in GCSE mathematics.
Lead the embedding of a centrally designed programme of additional curriculum support and professional development for students and teachers in target schools.
Run and facilitate events, for target schools, in liaison with universities and employers, which will increase the aspiration of students to progress to Level 3 maths and STEM degrees.
Advise and support maths education at Level 3 in their Maths Hub regions
Provide advice to maths leaders in schools and colleges to promote engagement with Level 3 professional development,11-16 enhancement and FM tuition provided by the AMSP.
Encourage and support schools and colleges to offer Core Maths.
Lead Maths Hub Work Groups and Programmes for teachers of A Level Maths and/or Core Maths.
Communication
Work as part of the Level 3 team.
Report to their Senior Local Lead relating to their work, overseen by the Director for School & Stakeholder Engagement.
Promote the support provided by the AMSP by attending local and regional events, acting as a representative of the AMSP.
Liaise with HEIs, employers, careers organisations and other appropriate local agencies and stakeholders in their area.
Provide required reporting information of school and college engagement to AMSP leadership and Maths Hubs.
In addition, the Local Lead will assist the School & Stakeholder Engagement Team by:
maintaining awareness and knowledge of current developments in mathematics education policy, research and practice relevant to the role.
meeting MEI's requirements for safeguarding, quality management, health and safety, other legal requirements and environmental policies.
Contribute to the wider work of MEI as required

Qualified Teacher Status
3+ years of direct experience of teaching mathematics to students across the 11-19 age range
Experience of teaching both GCSE and AS/A level Mathematics
An education expert with deep subject knowledge and experience of implementing pedagogical best practice in subject and phase
A first degree in mathematics, or a strongly mathematics-based subject
Experience of supporting the development of mathematics teachers
Experience of leadership and management in a mathematics education context
The ability to think creatively and recognise opportunities
Strong IT skills including the use of technology in teaching mathematics
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Good team-working skills and the willingness to work as part of a team

Experience of mathematics enrichment or outreach work
Experience of using software in the development of teaching/learning resources, such as quiz authoring tools, shared working environments, and mathematics software such as Desmos, GeoGebra or similar.

Additional information

This role will involve some travel and occasional overnight stays away from home. The role may also involve some occasional work on a Saturday.
