The role requires the ability to work proactively to maintain and repair Company Third Party Assets (Our amazing Locomotives). We are looking for A chargehand who has experience in installation and fault finding within Locomotive electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair electrical faults on HNRC Swietelsky and customer locomotive fleets, including (but not limited to) Class 08, Class 20, Class 37, Class 47, and Class 56. Ensure all findings and actions are accurately recorded.
Take a lead role in diagnosing and repairing DC traction systems, generators, alternators, low-voltage, and control circuits, while providing mentorship to colleagues.
Deliver training and mentorship to employees, overseeing team development. Implement a structured training programme to ensure competency standards are met.
Implement electrical modifications in line with supplied procedures, raising and acting on any inaccuracies or opportunities for improvement. Demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying and addressing improvement areas.
Carry out routine electrical inspections and examinations to the highest standards.
Work independently, using initiative to complete electrical work effectively and safely.
Manage and comply with all safety notices, rules, and regulations.
Maintain excellent standards of housekeeping in line with safe working practices and company expectations.
Collaborate with senior management to identify and implement improvements across the locomotive fleet.
Mentor and support electrical apprentices in their professional development towards becoming fully qualified electrical engineers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
Strong understanding of OTDR, GSM-R, and TPWS systems.
Time-served in an electrical discipline with proven experience in locomotive fault finding and modifications.
Experience mentoring apprentices or junior engineers.
Familiarity with structured training programmes within engineering teams.
Previous experience with traction and/or rolling stock.
Good standard of mathematics and English.
Team player with excellent communication skills.
Understanding of the rail industry.

Pay: 50,000.00-60,000.00 per year
