Job Description

We have a vacancy for a Locum Consultant Hand/Plastic Surgeon for a period of 6 months commencing 1st January 2026 based in the Pulvertaft Hand Centre, Royal Derby Hospital.
The successful applicant will join a team of Consultants (4 plastic and 6 Orthopaedic) and will contribute to the delivery of both the elective and trauma Hand and Plastic Surgery service. The Job plan will include clinic and theatre sessions in the Pulvertaft Hand Unit and possibly at other sites within the organisation. The post also includes a 1 in 8 on call commitment.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a high calibre individual who will bring added value and extra capacity to what is already a highly regarded and very busy unit.
The Pulvertaft Hand Centre is nationally and internationally recognised with special areas of interest in hand trauma, wrist, tendon, brachial plexus, rheumatology and particular expertise in orthopaedic, plastic and emergency surgery as well as associated upper limb disorders. The Unit comprises of dedicated facilities including 3 theatres, outpatient department, physiotherapy and occupational therapy department, secretariat and research unit.

  • oMBBS / MBChB or equivalent
  • oFRCS (orth), FRCS (plast) or equivalent higher qualification
  • oLife Support Qualification
  • oFull GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application

  • oAdditional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty
  • oTraining Qualification
  • oGMC Specialist Register OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR If applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a CESR application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC.
