1. Job Purpose



The postholder will provide high-quality clinical care in General Internal Medicine (GIM), supporting acute and inpatient services. They will contribute to the acute medical take, ward-based care, outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary team activities.

The role is designed for an experienced physician who can integrate rapidly into a busy NHS team, supervise junior doctors, and contribute to safe, effective patient care.

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities



Participate in the

acute medical take

on a rota basis. Provide

consultant-led ward rounds

on general medicine wards. Support

rapid access / acute assessment clinics

(where required). Provide

outpatient general medicine clinics

and subspecialty clinics aligned to the Trust's service needs. Deliver

clinical leadership

and supervision for registrars, SHOs, and foundation doctors. Contribute to

multidisciplinary team meetings

and work collaboratively with allied health professionals. Ensure adherence to

NHS Trust clinical governance, audit, and safety standards

. Participate in

teaching and training

of medical students and junior doctors. Engage in

quality improvement activities

and service development initiatives.

While this is a General Internal Medicine post, applicants with subspecialty skills may be considered to support service needs, including (but not limited to):

Acute Medicine Respiratory Medicine Cardiology Diabetes & Endocrinology Gastroenterology & Hepatology Nephrology Geriatric Medicine Haematology Rheumatology Infectious Diseases

4. Person Specification



Essential:



GMC registration with licence to practise. Entry on Specialist Register in General Internal Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT at interview). Broad experience in acute and general internal medicine. Ability to supervise and lead clinical teams effectively. Commitment to NHS values, patient safety, and high-quality care.

Desirable:



Subspecialty accreditation and experience. Evidence of teaching and training medical students/junior doctors. Audit, research, or service improvement contributions.

Working pattern:

Full-time (part-time considered).

On-call commitments:

As per rota, covering acute take.

Remuneration:

As per agency locum rates agreed with the Trust.

Start date:

ASAP - urgent requirement.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: 95.34-120.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45 - 50 per week

Work Location: In person
