Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, available for approximately 12 months whilst covering maternity leave.This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious team at the University Hospital of Wales which births over 5,400 women per year and provides tertiary fetal & Maternal medicine services for all South East Wales. We are looking for someone with an interest in service improvement that aligns with evidenced based medicine and interest in multi-professional teaching and training.Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is xc2xa3116,600 per annum.Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register for Obstetrics & Gynaecology.Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.Main duties of the jobThe Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, primarily based at the UHW site, provides midwife led and obstetric led care to women within Cardiff and the Vale. Around 1/5 of our antenatal care is provided from University Hospital Llandough and this is both midwife and obstetric led care. The UHB also provides a tertiary service for fetal medicine, maternal medicine, infertility and gynae-oncology.About usCardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest Integrated Health Boards in the UK, employing over 17,000 staff, providing over 100 specialist services. Qualifications
Essential

  • On GMC Specialist Register for specialty
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • ATSM or equivalent in advance LW practice
Desirable
  • ATSM or equivalent in medical education
  • ATSM or equivalent in emergency Gynaecology
  • Qualification in ultrasound scanning
Experience
Essential
  • Able to demonstrate ability to work in a regional service at a Consultant level
  • Evidence of recent participation in emergency drills
  • Broad training and experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to fulfil requirements of the job plan
Skills
Essential
  • Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
  • Effective and demonstrable communication skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • Competence in ultrasound
Clinical Governance
Essential
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
  • Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation (or equivalent)
  • Experience of authoring written reports following adverse incidents (eg RCA or PSLR tools)
