Job Summary
The post holder will join the existing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team to provide a high-quality, comprehensive OMFS service for patients of the Trust. The consultant will contribute to elective, emergency, and outpatient services, as well as to the supervision and training of junior staff.
You will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contribute to service development, and ensure the highest standards of clinical care in line with NHS and GMC standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consultant-level care in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including diagnosis, surgical management, and follow-up of patients.
Participate in elective theatre sessions, outpatient clinics, and on-call rotas as required.
Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to junior medical staff, dental core trainees, and specialty registrars.
Collaborate with colleagues across surgical, oncology, ENT, plastics, and dental specialties in multidisciplinary care.
Participate in audit, governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
Contribute to teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
Participate in service planning and development to enhance patient access and efficiency.
Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) and participate in annual appraisal and revalidation.
Qualifications & Essential Requirements
Primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
and
dental qualification (BDS or equivalent).
FRCS (OMFS)
or equivalent specialist qualification.
Full registration
with both the
General Medical Council (GMC)
and
General Dental Council (GDC).
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
(or within 6 months of CCT/CESR at the time of interview).
Evidence of appropriate training and competence in all aspects of OMFS practice.
Demonstrable experience in managing the acute OMFS workload including facial trauma, infections, and head & neck pathology.
Experience in leadership, teaching, and clinical governance.
Desirable Criteria
Subspecialty interest in [e.g. head & neck oncology / orthognathic surgery / trauma reconstruction / salivary gland surgery].
Experience in NHS or comparable healthcare environment.
Evidence of research, audit, or publications in the field.
