Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a candidate to join a growing, dynamic and forward thinking Rheumatology department at Chelsea & Westminster Foundation Trust. The candidate will join a faculty of 4 consultants at the West Middlesex University Hospital.



The appointed individual is expected to uphold the Trust values to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care to patients with Rheumatological conditions.



The appointee must be a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent and would be expected to have completed higher specialist training or equivalent in Rheumatology. It is highly desirable that the appointee holds a higher medical degree (i.e. MD or PhD).



The appointee will work together with Consultant colleagues and will be responsible for the management of patients with Rheumatological conditions in C&W Foundation Trust. The post holder should have a wide experience of Rheumatology and General Medicine. The post holder will be encouraged and supported to continue to develop specialist interests that synchronise with the departmental service.



The main duties of the appointees will be:



Outpatient activity :



Four and a half outpatient clinics (10 patient template) per week (mixture of general rheumatology and specialist conditions), including an Ambulatory Care HOT clinic.



A variety of specialist Rheumatology clinics already exist:



West Middlesex Site:

Biologics therapies, Osteoporosis, Early Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Connective Tissue Disease, HOT clinic and joint injection.



Nurse led clinics for disease modifying drug monitoring and patient education.



Meetings and Teaching



There are weekly departmental meetings:

a weekly team meeting and an x-ray meeting



Rheumatology /Respiratory radiology MDT meeting monthly



Actively participate in undergraduate teaching of clinical medical students attached to the department



The post holder will participate on the hospital general medical on call rota.



We provide services from two main hospitals, West Middlesex University Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. The post holder will:



Participate in, and provide committed Rheumatology outpatient care, and inpatient support.



Facilitate access to a full range of inpatient and outpatient Rheumatology services.



Be expected to cover for absent Consultant colleagues within the Department to allow for annual and study leave.



Make collaboration between hospital and community services as efficient as possible, supporting discharge from hospital where appropriate and ensuring appropriate follow up arrangements.



Provide peer group support, supervision, further education and professional development essential to the welfare and effectiveness of trainees in Rheumatology, General Internal Medicine and the allied professions.



Be educationally responsible for training l of junior staff



Demonstrate a continuing commitment to medical CPD and evaluation in Rheumatology.



Develop communication and other non-clinical aspects of Rheumatology services.



Actively participate in undergraduate teaching of clinical medical students attached to the department



See referrals from colleagues WMUH



Actively participate in the development of the Fracture Liaison Service.



Provide GP advice



Participate in appraisal on an annual basis. Appraisals are part of a robust divisional annual system, which is led by the Divisional Medical Director. The post holder is expected to be informed of the annual timetable for appraisal and ensure that appropriate time is set aside to update their portfolio and mandatory requirements.
