We are seeking a reliable and motivated Locum Dispenser to join our busy GP practice. The role involves supporting the safe and efficient dispensing of medication to our dispensing patients, managing stock and prescription workflows, and providing a high standard of patient-facing service.
This is a demanding and rewarding role within a fast-paced primary care environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring dispensing workloads are managed accurately, safely, and in line with current regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
If applicable, this role could become permanent.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing & Prescriptions
Prepare and dispense repeat and acute prescriptions in accordance with SOPs and legal requirements
Patient Care & Communication
Deal with patient enquiries face-to-face and by telephone in a professional and courteous manner
Provide clear information to patients regarding prescriptions, medication availability, and collection times
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times in line with GDPR and practice policies
Stock Control & Ordering
Assist with stock control, including receiving deliveries and putting away stock correctly
Monitor stock levels and assist with reordering medications and consumables
Rotate stock appropriately and check expiry dates
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe dispensary environment
Governance & Safety
Ensure high standards of dispensing practice are upheld at all times
Work in accordance with all practice policies, SOPs, and NHS regulations
Support audit processes and quality improvement within the dispensary
Report incidents, near misses, or errors promptly and appropriately
Issue prescriptions and medications to dispensing patients accurately and safely
Use EMIS Web to process prescriptions, manage dispensing records, and update patient information
Identify and escalate prescription queries or discrepancies to the appropriate clinician
Skills & Experience
Previous experience as a Dispenser in a GP practice(preferred) or pharmacy setting
Experience using EMIS Web (desirable but not essential)
Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to manage a busy workload and work effectively as part of a team
