Job Summary



The NHS Trust is seeking an experienced

Locum Registrar in Medicine

to provide high-quality clinical care across a range of medical specialties, including

Geriatric Medicine, Acute & General Medicine, Stroke Medicine, Oncology, and Haematology

.

This role requires a doctor with strong clinical acumen, leadership skills, and the ability to manage acute and complex medical presentations under minimal supervision. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure timely assessment, treatment, and safe discharge of patients.

Key Responsibilities



Lead and manage the care of acutely unwell medical patients under consultant supervision. Perform ward rounds and participate in acute take and admissions. Supervise and support junior medical staff (SHOs, FY1/FY2 doctors). Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with acute and chronic medical conditions. Participate in on-call rotas, including weekends and nights, as required. Liaise effectively with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and other specialties. Review and interpret investigations including blood tests, ECGs, and imaging results. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, handovers, and discharge planning. Ensure accurate and timely documentation in patient records and electronic systems. Uphold NHS Trust policies on clinical governance, infection control, and patient safety. Contribute to departmental teaching, audits, and service development initiatives.

Clinical Areas Covered



This post will primarily involve work within the following specialties:

General & Acute Medicine



Management of acutely unwell patients admitted via A&E or Medical Admissions Unit (MAU). Reviewing medical outliers across inpatient wards. Supporting junior staff in the acute take.

Geriatric Medicine



Comprehensive assessment and management of elderly patients with multiple comorbidities. Working in frailty units or care of the elderly wards. Involvement in discharge planning and multidisciplinary rehabilitation meetings.

Stroke Medicine



Assessment and management of patients with acute stroke or TIA. Participation in thrombolysis and post-stroke rehabilitation care under consultant supervision.

Oncology & Haematology



Assessment and management of oncology and haematology inpatients, including chemotherapy-related complications. Close liaison with palliative care and specialist teams. Supervision of investigations, transfusions, and infection control in immunocompromised patients.

Person Specification



Essential:



Full GMC registration with a license to practise in the UK. Minimum 3 years of post-foundation experience, with

Registrar-level (ST3+) medical experience

in the NHS or equivalent.

ALS (Advanced Life Support) certification - mandatory.

Proven ability to manage acutely unwell medical patients independently. Excellent communication and team-working skills. Flexibility to work across sites and cover varying shift patterns. Right to work in the UK.

Desirable:



Experience in Stroke, Oncology, or Haematology settings. MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Prior locum or NHS middle-grade experience. Audit, teaching, or QI project experience.

Working Pattern



Full-time or part-time locum shifts available. Typical rota includes day shifts, long days, nights, and weekends. On-call commitments as required by the department. Flexibility to work across Trust hospitals or neighbouring sites.

Pay: 56.49-85.00 per hour
