Provide high-level legal advice and support on matters relating to Education Law, with a particular focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Represent the local authority in First-tier SEND Tribunal appeals and manage a caseload of complex SEN litigation matters
Draft legal documents, including witness statements, tribunal responses, and other documentation
Advise education and children's services departments on EHC Plans, exclusions, admissions, safeguarding, and wider education law issues
Supervise, mentor, and support junior lawyers, paralegals, and legal officers within the education law team, ensuring consistency and quality of legal advice
Provide leadership and direction in complex or high-profile matters, acting as the senior point of contact on education/SEN issues
Support the Legal Services Manager or Head of Legal in team coordination, resource planning, and service delivery
Assist in developing best practice, policies, and procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement within the legal team
Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders, including council officers, schools, and education professionals
Work collaboratively with internal departments, external counsel, and key external partners
The ideal candidate will have at experience in handling SEN/Education matters at a Senior Level and can demonstrate prior experience working on behalf of Local Authorities.
