. The successful candidate will provide high-quality care to patients in the emergency department, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver emergency services in line with best practice, NHS guidelines, and departmental protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
:
Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
Triage and assess emergency patients, including the management of critical and acute conditions.
Perform emergency procedures, including but not limited to, advanced airway management, trauma management, and resuscitation.
Provide on-call cover as required by the department and ensure timely management of emergency cases.
Collaborate effectively with consultants, senior doctors, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to deliver optimal care.
Leadership and Supervision
:
Supervise and support junior doctors and other healthcare professionals, providing guidance and teaching where appropriate.
Participate in departmental teaching sessions, including formal and informal teaching, audit, and clinical governance activities.
Contribute to the development of departmental protocols, patient pathways, and best practice.
Quality and Safety
:
Ensure high standards of clinical governance, including compliance with infection control practices and health and safety policies.
Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving patient care and departmental performance.
Ensure documentation is complete and accurate, adhering to NHS guidelines.
Training and Development
:
Maintain personal CPD and ensure up-to-date knowledge of emergency medicine practices.
Participate in regular departmental teaching and clinical training.
Administrative Responsibilities
:
Complete necessary clinical documentation, including patient notes and discharge summaries.
Participate in departmental meetings and handover processes to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements
Qualifications
:
Full registration with the
General Medical Council (GMC)
with a license to practice.
Completed at least
ST3
or equivalent in Emergency Medicine or a related specialty.
ALS, ATLS, and APLS certifications (or equivalent) are essential.
MRCP (UK) or equivalent (desirable but not essential).
Experience
:
Minimum of
ST3+ level
experience in Emergency Medicine.
Demonstrable experience in managing a broad range of emergency cases and performing relevant procedures.
Experience in working in a busy, high-pressure ED environment.
Skills
:
Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and handle complex cases.
Strong leadership and teaching skills.
