Job Description

Reporting to the Group Logistics Manager, you will be based in our Bedford depot. As a Logistics Controller you will have significant experience of working in the transport sector, being a part of a planning team and managing your own workload. You will coordinate inter-depot inbound and outbound distribution to our customers, improving both the utilisation of own fleet and use of third-party transport. You will work closely with our depot teams, customers and third-party contractors and be integral to providing outstanding customer service to all stakeholders.

About You!



You should have strong organisational and time management skills Excellent problem-solving abilities Attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis Effective oral and written communication skills Proficiency in using transportation management software and tools Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance standards Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines Strong IT skills Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook Ability to work within a large team environment A flexible approach to change and drive to continuously improve A good geographical knowledge of the UK is required CPC knowledge LGV route planning HIAB use and W&H information

About the Role!



Coordinate all movements associated with customer deliveries, collections, inbound, inter-depot, site moves, events, exchanges and sales using company planning systems Producing cost effective and accurate route scheduling to meet customer requirements Communicate with customers prior to scheduling a vehicle movement to site to confirm access, date and reason for visit. Communicate failed, diverted and aborted journeys to minimise cost and maximise recovery Ensure the efficient and accurate flow of relevant delivery/collection documentation Daily debrief of driver activities with drivers, depots and hauliers to ensure effective communication Identifying and communicating resource issues through appropriate escalations Track vehicle locations to keep updated on status. Ensuring all routes are kept on schedule and informing all stakeholders of any incurred changes or delays Ensure that drivers comply with all relevant Road Transport legislation, including the correct and timely use of tachographs and internal reporting including the 48-hour working week systems in place Assessing commercial viability of requests challenging decisions based on optimised sourcing, cost vs revenue and service levels. Utilising third party allocation where required. Work closely with Central Desk department as required.
