We have an exciting opportunity for a Logistics and General Munitions (GM) Support Operative, based at our Defence Munitions (DM) Gosport site.



Defence Munitions Receive, Store, Maintain & Issue a wide range of munitions that are used by the UK armed forces to train, protect, and serve anywhere in the world. Our Defence Munitions staff work closely with DE&S project teams and front-line commands to ensure our troops have the right items at the right time. We work as an important part of the wider MoD establishment that supports, procures, and supplies our troops, providing them with a range of munitions from bullets, shells, Pyrotechnics including and complex weapons.



As a Logistics and GM Support Operative, you will work on a range of tasks related to Defence Munitions, ranging from receipting, storage issuing and managing inventory. You will also have opportunities to work on a range of associated documentation and IT systems to help ensure our Armed Forces receive the supplies they need accurately, efficiently, and on time.



As a Logistics and GM Support Operative, you will be part of a dedicated team working in one of two key areas. the first role is in our Logistics team, where you will be ensuring that all issues and receipts of stores are thoroughly checked, confirming all operations are carried out in a safe manner and assisting with logistics, storage, and planning activities to ensure that customers' requirements are met on time. Our second role is in the General Munitions department, where you'll be making sure that munitions and explosives are handled in a safe and efficient manner, maintaining a high standard of housekeeping within the explosives processing facilities, and completing non-intrusive processing tasks as required onboard HM Ships & Submarines and other military establishments.



In this hands-on role, you'll develop a broad range of skills across all areas of General Munitions Processing including examination, repair, packing, and working with IT systems. You will start under supervision but quickly build confidence and competence as you gain experience.



You will become multi-skilled, operating a variety of equipment such as Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE), vehicles, cranes, and lifting gear. With full training provided, you'll also become proficient in using hand tools, making this a dynamic and rewarding opportunity for those who enjoy practical work and continuous learning.

This role is 100% site based, with some travel to our other sites being necessary. A subsistence allowance is provided Applicants must be over 18 years old to apply, due to the Explosive Handling Regulations A full medical check is required before taking up the post, and the job offer will be contingent on its outcome The standard hours for the position are 37 per week, Monday - Thursday 07:30 - 16:15, and Friday 07:30 - 12:30 Comprehensive training provided on the safe and effective use of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE)

What you'll be doing




When processing, adhere to production schedules/targets with due regard to safety, time, cost and quality Conduct packing, repacking and marking activities (painting and remarking of ammunition containers to required specification detailed in the relevant Ammunition Working Drawing Ensure all palletised loads are prepared and documented in accordance with the relevant Unit Load Specification (ULS) Handle munitions and explosives in a safe and efficient manner Carry out before, during and after pre-use checks on Mechanical Handling Equipment Assist with all logistics and storage activities to ensure that customers' requirements are met on time and in full, this may include working on-board Her Majesty's Ships and other military establishments
