Wellington Plant, Bury

is part of Milliken's Performance Textiles Divisionandis a multi-award-winning textile manufacturer supplying fabric products into Airbag systems for automotive vehicles. Shipping to over forty locations in twenty countries, we contribute to saving three thousand lives per year and prevent over thirty thousand life changing injuries. As a showcase site for our Performance Solutions Business, we regularly host visits from multinational companies as well as being a host site for events involving the Manufacturing Institute and Onsite Insights. The Loom Technician shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:


Diagnosing the cause of cloth and mechanical defects and making the necessary corrections Completing all minor repairs on all looms Ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures are followed in full to complete tasks such as style changes Ensuring Preventative Maintenance (PM) duties such as checking Rapiers, settings, worn and loose parts, loom lubrication etc. are carried out in accordance with the PM schedule Assisting with major overhauling where required Working as part of the production team to ensure minimum downtime Controlling the use of weaving spares Maintaining the highest possible levels of quality, efficiency and maintenance Ensuring all loom settings are to specification Complying with Health & Safety practices and Company policies Ensuring that work areas are kept clean, clear and hazard free Reporting all accidents as required Performing any other task that is of a reasonable request in line with the production department.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience and knowledge of working with Rapier and Waterjet looms. Excellent health and safety practices and knowledge Reliable and enthusiastic. Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity Able to work to given tolerances and measurements An organised team player with strong communication skills Keen eye for detail and housekeeping. Ability to work to tight deadlines Ability to communicate at all levels Understanding of Kanban systems, standard work and C.S.D. (continuous skills development) Experience of following Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals Knowledge of weaving processes would be advantageous Knowledge of Barco would be advantageous Experience of implementing Lean practices would be advantageous.
