The Myriad Centre is a specialist day service supporting adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex health needs. Our goal is to provide compassionate, person-centered care that promotes dignity, choice, and independence for all our service users. We are looking for a caring and reliable Lunchtime Assistant to join our dedicated team and make a real difference in the lives of the people we support.
Purpose of the Role
To support service users with their lunchtime routines in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. This includes assistance with eating and drinking, social engagement during meals, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and dignity throughout.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Support
Assist individuals with eating and drinking according to their personal care and dietary needs.
Follow individual eating and drinking care plans, including any speech and language therapy (SaLT) guidance.
Use specialist feeding techniques or equipment (e.g. adapted cutlery, plate guards, drinking aids) where required.
Monitor food and fluid intake and report concerns to the appropriate staff member.
Personal Care & Hygiene
Provide discreet and respectful support with hygiene related to meals (e.g. washing hands, wiping mouths, changing protective clothing or aprons).
Health & Safety
Follow strict infection control procedures, including hand hygiene and cleaning of eating areas.
Ensure the dining area is safe and comfortable for service users.
Promptly report any accidents, incidents or concerns to a senior member of staff.
Team Support & Communication
Work closely with support staff, service leads and therapists to ensure a consistent approach to each individual's care.
Maintain positive and respectful communication with service users and colleagues.
Person Specification
Essential
Compassionate and respectful attitude towards people with disabilities
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to follow instructions and individual care plans
Reliable and punctual
Willingness to undertake necessary training (e.g. feeding support, safeguarding)
Desirable
Experience working with adults with disabilities or in a care/support setting
Knowledge of safe eating and drinking practices (e.g. IDDSI framework)
Basic first aid training
Understanding of person-centred care
