Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Lunchtime Supervisor to become an integral part of our Prep School community. This role is essential in providing a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for our children during the lunchtime period. As Lunchtime Supervisor, you will work closely with pupils aged Year 1-6 to encourage positive behaviour, promote good manners, and foster healthy eating habits.

You will be responsible for supervising play both indoors and outdoors, supporting friendships and inclusivity, and ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all children during this important part of the school day. Reporting directly to the Head of Prep, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference by modelling respectful behaviour and helping children develop social skills in a calm, supportive atmosphere.

This is a term-time role, working 1.5 hours each day

Key Tasks:



Working with children. Have high expectations of the children's behaviour and model respectful relationships. Use and model positive behaviour behaviour management strategies. Encourage children to eat respectfully with good table manners. Take children out to play and supervise play, initiating games and supporting friendships. Keep pupils safe when escorting around and across the school site, particularly when crossing the road. Supervise children indoors during wet play or bad weather, ensuring safe and calm behaviour. Monitor dietary needs and food allergies, ensuring children only eat permitted foods. Promote healthy eating habits and a positive relationship with food, encouraging children to try a variety of foods and reduce waste. Supervise toileting and hand washing. Support children with additional needs to access lunchtime and play activities safely and inclusively. Assist with conflict resolution between pupils, using de-escalation strategies and restorative language to support positive relationships. Encourage participation in games for all children, ensuring no child feels excluded. Bring children in after playtime and encourage positive behaviour so that they are calm and ready to learn. Share relevant observations or incidents with the class teacher or relevant staff at the end of lunchtime. Accurately record and report concerns using the school's safeguarding or behaviour reporting systems as directed. Undertake any other duties that may be agreed from time to time with the Head of Prep.

Responsibilities



Main duties will include: Set up and pack away lunchtime play equipment safely, reporting any damage or hazards. Ensure the playground or indoor supervision area is left tidy and safe after playtime. Attend all required safeguarding training, including Prevent and child protection updates. Undertake any other duties that may be agreed from time to time with the Head of Prep.

Health & Safety



Read and comply with the employer's Health and Safety Policy for both their own protection and for all other employees, pupils and visitors on site. Undertake first aid training and act as a first aider. Undertake the relevant Food Hygiene training.

General



Participate in relevant training to support lunchtime supervision, such as playground leadership, positive behaviour strategies, and SEND awareness. Any other duties as required from time to time by the Head of Prep.

Child Protection

Authority



The lunchtime supervisor will have no responsibility or authority over any other staff.

Liaison



The need for confidentiality is very important and must always be carefully considered. No liaison with external bodies is authorised; any enquiries from parents or other persons, except of the most general nature, should be referred to the Headteacher

This is a fixed term role, for one year only.



The interviews for this role will take place w/c 18 August.



Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract

Pay: 12.21 per hour
