Leycroft Academy is an inclusive and vibrant specialist primary school with 170 pupils on roll. The children all have a diagnosis of ASC with the trend towards an increasingly complex cohort expected to continue. The school is part of Forward Education Trust (FET), an established and developing MAT of 7 special schools in Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull. This is an exciting time for the school and the Trust with a leadership team who will provide the strategic and operational leadership which will deliver on the commitment to ensuring the children receive the best possible education, care and life chances.


We are a popular special school located in Tile Cross, Birmingham. We are looking to appoint lunch time supervisors who are team players, kind, playful, flexible and a commitment to providing our pupils with equality of opportunity. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to join our talented and dedicated team of Leycroft staff and multi-disciplinary colleagues.





All the amazing children who attend our school have an Education and Health Care Plan. Our school currently educates children with complex and multiple needs across 16 classes. Our children may have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and/or a diagnosis of an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). Some children have additional needs including visual impairment and hearing impairment. We aim to underpin our curriculum delivery which includes lunchtimes through continually developing our communication work so that the children can access their learning in a way personalised to their needs.





Job Purpose:





To ensure the safety, wellbeing, and positive lunchtime experience of pupils with autism during the midday break. The role involves supervising pupils in the dining hall, playground, and other areas, supporting their individual needs, and promoting social interaction and independence in line with the school's values and specialist provision.





Key Responsibilities:





Supervise pupils during lunch in the dining area, playground, and indoor spaces as required. Support pupils with eating and drinking, If necessary. Promote and model positive behaviour, using consistent strategies aligned with pupils' individual behaviour support plans. Encourage social interaction and communication, adapting approaches to meet the needs of non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils. Provide calm and structured transitions between activities and environments. -Recognise and respond to signs of distress, anxiety, or sensory overload, using de-escalation techniques and seeking support when needed. Maintain a safe and inclusive environment, ensuring all pupils are accounted for and supported. Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and other staff to ensure continuity of care and support. Completing training relevant to autism, safeguarding, and positive behaviour support as required by the school. Person Specification: Essential: Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting children with autism. Ability to follow individual care and behaviour plans. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Awareness of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.

Experience working with children or young people with autism or additional needs.

Leycroft Academy officially opened on 1st September 2021, following de-amalgamation having previously been part of Brays School over two sites. Leycroft specialises in the education of primary-aged pupils with a diagnosis of Autism, and other complex needs such as ADHD and behaviour that may challenge. The school has high standards of teaching and learning and is committed to ensuring that all pupils achieve their full potential.
