We're looking for a reliable and proactive individual to join our friendly team as a Machine Shop Operative.
This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, supporting our Manufacturing Operations and contributing to customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Setup
: Setting up, operating, and performing basic maintenance on various woodworking machines, including saws (dimension, table, rip), planers, spindle moulders, routers, and computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment.
Material Handling
: Selecting the appropriate type and amount of timber or board materials based on project specifications and safely handling heavy materials. Materials to be safely handled using forklifts and other handling equipment.
Technical Interpretation
: Reading and interpreting detailed technical drawings and production specifications to understand dimensions and required finishes.
Cutting & Shaping
: Accurately measuring, marking, cutting, shaping, and profiling wood to create specific components, complex shapes, and joints (e.g., rebates, grooves, mouldings).
Quality Control
: Inspecting finished products to ensure dimensions and finishes meet exact client specifications and performing adjustments as needed.
Maintenance & Safety
: Performing first-line maintenance on tools and machinery (e.g., sharpening blades, lubrication) and strictly following health, safety, and environmental regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean and organized work environment adhering to safety standards.
Documentation & Teamwork
: Completing job-related documentation and collaborating effectively with other machinists, designers, and production staff to meet deadlines.
Required Skills and Knowledge
Technical Skills
: Proficiency in using both conventional and CNC woodworking machinery, hand tools, and measuring equipment (e.g., callipers, tape measures).
Accuracy and Attention to Detail
: The ability to work to tight tolerances and ensure high precision in all cuts and profiles is crucial.
Maths and Computer Skills
: Good mathematical skills for measurements and calculations, and the ability to use computer software.
Problem-Solving
: The capacity to identify and resolve issues, such as incorrect cuts or machine malfunctions, quickly to minimize waste and downtime.
Physical Stamina
: The role is physically demanding, involving standing for long periods and some heavy lifting.
Overtime available
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: 13.00-16.00 per hour
Expected hours: 39 per week
