We're now looking for a proactive and experienced Maintenance and Health & Safety Manager to help us maintain our high standards of safety, compliance, and presentation across all sites.
Purpose of the Role
To ensure every Den Nursery site remains safe, compliant, and well-maintained -- providing secure, welcoming environments for children, staff, and visitors.
This role combines hands-on maintenance work with oversight of health & safety and site improvements across the group.
Key ResponsibilitiesHealth & Safety & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and regulations (fire safety, COSHH, risk assessments, accident reporting).
Carry out regular safety inspections and audits across all sites.
Provide health & safety briefings and training for staff.
Investigate incidents or near-misses, identify improvements, and ensure follow-up actions are implemented.
Maintenance & Facilities
Oversee planned and reactive maintenance across all nurseries, including electrical, plumbing, buildings, furniture, and playground areas.
Carry out small repairs and "handyman" tasks when appropriate.
Coordinate external contractors, ensuring work is safe, compliant, and to a high standard.
Maintain a clean, well-presented, and child-friendly environment across all settings.
Site Improvements & Refurbishments
Lead and coordinate small refurbishment or improvement works such as redecorations, layout updates, and outdoor area enhancements.
Plan and monitor work schedules, budgets, and completion standards.
Liaise with nursery managers to minimise disruption to children and staff.
General & Administration
Maintain an asset register and up-to-date maintenance records for all sites.
Manage maintenance budgets, obtain quotes, and monitor costs.
Prepare simple reports on safety checks, site condition, and upcoming maintenance priorities.
Ensure safeguarding, safety, and site security are always prioritised.
Skills & Experience
Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent qualification desirable).
Experience in maintenance or facilities management, ideally in education, childcare, or similar environments.
Hands-on practical skills (basic carpentry, decorating, plumbing, or electrical).
Experience coordinating contractors and managing small refurbishments.
Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities across several sites.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining safe, compliant environments.
Additional Information
Multi-site role, requiring travel between nurseries (company mileage policy applies).
Occasional out-of-hours work may be required to respond to urgent issues.
