Job Description

This is a key position within the school. The role demands flexibility and attention to detail together with energy and enthusiasm and the willingness to go the extra mile. TheMaintenance Assistant role encompasses all aspects of buildings maintenance tasks. It requires a close working relationship with the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Administrator, the Bursar and other members of the Estate team. We would also welcome applications from persons who would like to learn on the job.

Key responsibilities:



To liaise with the Facilities Manager regarding all issues that relate to the maintenance and administration of the School estate. To include (but not limited to) - Minor building and site repairs; Health and safety compliance; Fire risk compliance Security Plumbing COSHH General maintenance School logistics To assist with preventative maintenance. To co-ordinate repairs and perform compliance tests under the supervision of the Facilities Manager; To complete regular compliance checks on a timely basis and adhere to the Health and Safety procedures and policies. Knowledge of water management systems including Legionella; To maintain and ensure compliance with all the appropriate health and safety regulations; To undertake regular checks on a systematic basis as requested; To maintain and check equipment safety, including but not limited to door closures, floor cleaning machines, laundry equipment; To perform carpentry, painting & decorating, plumbing and minor electrical work as may be required. To maintain locks and keys; To liaise with the in-house cleaners to assist them with their duties as may be required from time to time; To liaise with the groundsman on pest control in site buildings and record a weekly pest control log for the kitchen and dining room areas; To drive the School minibus for trips and activities as required; To be part of a team rota for a phone response contact in case of emergency out of School hours; To assist with School logistics including stage/seating erection; To maintain internal and external lighting, including setting time clocks; To assist with snow clearing, de-icing and other hazards that may arise; To work with other members of the staff team in a co-operative and helpful manner; To deliver any reasonable request by the Bursar or the Facilities Manager.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are 'spent' unless they are 'protected' under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

This is a 52-week a year position. The hours will be 42.5 hrs per week. The normal working hours are 8.00am to 5.30pm Monday-Friday , with half hour unpaid lunch break. You will be part of a weekend emergency duty rota in conjunction with the other members of the maintenance team. In addition there may be a requirement to work a small number of evening and weekend commitments. Overtime hours available

Holidays:

20 days per year plus public holidays, (holidays to be taken in conjunction with the maintenance team).
