Northstone Materials Limited is seeking applications for the position of a Maintenance Fitter based at our Toome Sand site.

The Maintenance Fitter will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of plant machinery and equipment throughout the site. This role involves planned preventative maintenance, troubleshooting breakdowns, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the site's reliability and efficiency.

About The Role

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Maintenance & Repairs:

Perform routine, preventative, and reactive maintenance on a wide range of mechanical equipment, including conveyors, pumps, crushers, screens, and hydraulics etc.

Fault Finding & Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise downtime and ensure optimal plant performance.

Health & Safety Compliance:

Adhere to company safety policies, risk assessments, and safe working procedures, ensuring all work is carried out in line with relevant health and safety regulations.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, breakdowns, and repairs.

Continuous Improvement:

Assist in identifying areas for process improvement, cost savings, and increased plant efficiency.

Fabrication & Welding:

Carry out basic fabrication and welding work as required.

Collaboration:

Work closely with production teams, electricians, and external contractors to ensure seamless plant operations.

Stock & Spare Parts Management:

Assist in monitoring and managing spare parts inventory, ensuring critical components are available when needed.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential


Qualifications:

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Maintenance, or a related field.

Experience:

Proven experience in a similar maintenance role within a quarry, sand plant, heavy industry, or manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveyors.

Skills:

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals. Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and ability to liaise with colleagues at all levels. Welding and fabrication skills.

Other Requirements:

Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and call-outs, as required. Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

IOSH or equivalent health and safety training.
