At Hallmark Luxury Care Homes, we're committed to creating safe, comfortable, and welcoming environments where residents feel truly at home. Since 1997, our family-run homes across England and Wales have been built on strong values, innovative facilities, and a dedication to outstanding care.

We're looking for a Maintenance Operative who can take ownership of the building and ensure it runs smoothly, safely, and in line with compliance standards--someone who's just as confident with a toolbox as they are with a checklist.

About the role

This is a dual-focused position, combining hands-on maintenance with compliance oversight. You'll be responsible for keeping the home in excellent condition, carrying out day-to-day repairs, and ensuring all safety and regulatory standards are met.

If you have experience in facilities or compliance and enjoy practical work--whether it's fixing a socket, coordinating contractors, or preparing for audits--this role offers the chance to make a real impact in a care setting.

Key Responsibilities

Building Oversight: Maintain the overall condition and safety of the home. Compliance Management: Lead on key areas including: + Fire Risk Assessments
+ Legionella Risk Assessments
+ Local Fire Authority requirements
Ensure documentation is accurate and inspections are well-supported. DIY & Reactive Maintenance: Handle general repairs and "like-for-like" fixes--e.g. hanging photo frames, fixing beds, replacing taps or sockets. Strategic Planning: Regularly assess the building, identify risks, and develop a plan to maintain compliance and safety. Contractor Coordination: Manage third-party contractors, ensuring outsourced work (e.g. certifications) is completed to a high standard. Environmental Monitoring: Monitor water and room temperatures to meet safety standards in a care environment.

Skills & Experience

We're looking for someone with a strong mix of practical ability and compliance awareness:

Facilities or Compliance Background: Experience in public or sensitive environments such as GP surgeries, hospitals, or dental practices. PPM Knowledge: Understanding of Planned Preventative Maintenance and how to apply it effectively. Hands-On Technical Skills: Comfortable with basic maintenance tasks--e.g. isolating water to change a tap or switching off power to replace a socket. Building Awareness: Able to assess the condition of a building and develop practical strategies for upkeep and safety. Contractor Management: Skilled in coordinating external contractors and ensuring quality standards. Environmental Safety: Knowledge of monitoring water systems and room temperatures in a commercial or care setting. Empathy & Adaptability: Able to work respectfully around vulnerable individuals, with sensitivity to the care environment. Problem-Solving & Ownership: Proactive, independent, and confident in managing your own workload and responsibilities.

Reap the Rewards:

Your dedication and hard work will be celebrated with a competitive salary, outstanding training and development opportunities, and a supportive work environment. But that's not all! Here's what else you can expect:

Valued as our Greatest Asset: Be part of a values-driven company that puts people first. Skyrocket Your Career: Avail yourself of industry-leading training and development, propelling your career to new heights. Wellness Matters: Enjoy excellent benefits, including a pension, life assurance, and optional healthcare. Exclusive Perks: Embrace our rewards and discount scheme - Hallmark Rewards. Balance is Key: Experience a fulfilling work-life balance, nurturing your well-being.

Why Join Us?

This role offers the opportunity to shape how maintenance is delivered in a care home, balancing practical work with meaningful responsibility. If you're looking for a role where you can take pride in your work, contribute to a safe and supportive environment, and grow your skills in both compliance and maintenance, we'd love to hear from you.
