Albert House is a nursing home, which provides 24/7 home-from-home living for 38 residents with varying support needs, including dementia.
As Maintenance Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. You will ensure the safety of all residents, visitors and employees by maintaining high standards of comfort, safety, and well-being. From minor repairs to overseeing health and safety compliance, your work will directly impact the quality of life of our residents.
Your focus will be Health & Safety checks of the building, environment and equipment internally and externally. The role is hands-on and can be physically demanding, so appropriate experience and relevant qualifications in minor electrical, plumbing, joinery, and an understanding of central heating, is desirable. You will organise and undertake general maintenance which may include basic plumbing, tiling, painting and decorating, groundwork, general building work, replacing light bulbs, cleaning gutters etc.
In addition to performing routine duties, you will need to have the ability to think outside the box and react to emergency or un-planned situations. The role will require going into resident's rooms, so you must feel comfortable around people living with dementia. Your work will contribute to making the home a vibrant and welcoming place for residents.
You will have a high level of autonomy but will work closely with the wider team. You may also need be required for out-of-hours cover, providing phone advice or attending the home in person if necessary.

Key responsibilities
Ensure the building and all equipment are H&S compliant and in good working order.
Utilise your experience in maintenance, building, DIY, and housekeeping to keep our facilities in top condition.
Demonstrate strong understanding of relevant health and safety regulations, implementing procedures to uphold compliance.
Apply your knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently, with attention to detail and precision.
Ensure care specific items are kept in top condition: mattresses, pumps, bedframe, hoists, slings, wheelchairs and any other equipment.
Ensure flooring is well maintained and carpets are regularly cleaned.
Engage with residents, visitors, and colleagues warmly and respectfully, providing clear and helpful communication to address maintenance needs and concerns.
Work collaboratively with fellow team members to prioritise tasks, respond promptly to requests, and maintain a positive and supportive work environment.
Carry out PAT Testing of all electrical items in accordance with legislative guidelines.
Ensure lighting, PIR, fuse system, intercall system, and fire alarm are working effectively.
Ensure facilities equipment are in good working order, such as dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, lift, doors.
Test and record water temperatures and temperature control systems on similar items.
Implement fire prevention checks and regular checks of plant and document checks.
Report any accidents immediately to the manager on duty and complete appropriate documentation immediately.
Safely store supplies and equipment.
Liaise with external contractors and assist as required.
Deliver & collect documentation and medications.
Adapt your work schedule to accommodate the needs of residents.
Provide a safe and pleasant environment, to allow optimum usage and enjoyment of the building for residents and visitors to the home.

Qualifications & Experience
Required: 3+ years as a maintenance person or similar role
Intermediate IT skills, including Microsoft suite or other technology
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations
Understanding of COSHH
PAT Testing
Full and clean driving license, and access to a vehicle
Desirable: have worked in a care home environment
Desirable: A working knowledge of Health and Social Care Act 2008
