We are looking for a skilled and reliable Maintenance Worker to join our team in Wolverhampton. The primary focus of this role is to ensure that our care home remains a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for our residents, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be a proactive "all-rounder" capable of handling a diverse range of tasks, from minor repairs to larger maintenance projects.
Key Responsibilities
General Repairs and Maintenance:
Carrying out a wide variety of "small to big" tasks, including basic plumbing, carpentry, tiling, and painting/decorating to keep the facility in excellent condition.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Conducting regular safety checks and maintaining records for fire alarms, emergency lighting, water temperatures (legionella control), and call bell systems.
Room Turnovers:
Preparing resident rooms for new admissions, which may include repairing furniture, repainting, and ensuring all fixtures are fully functional.
Grounds Maintenance:
Maintaining the external areas of the home, including basic gardening, clearing pathways, and ensuring the car park and entrance areas are tidy and safe.
Large-Scale Projects:
Assisting with or leading larger improvement projects, such as flooring replacements, flat-pack furniture assembly, or minor renovations as required by the Home Manager.
Contractor Liaison:
Coordinating with external specialized contractors (e.g., electricians or gas engineers) for major works and ensuring they follow the home's safety protocols.
Inventory Management:
Ordering and maintaining an inventory of essential tools and maintenance supplies while working within a set budget.
Skills and Requirements
Proven Experience:
Demonstrated experience in a general maintenance role, preferably within a residential or commercial setting.
Technical Proficiency:
Strong skills in at least two trade areas (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, or painting).
Safety Conscious:
A solid understanding of Health and Safety regulations and the ability to maintain accurate compliance logs.
Communication:
A friendly and professional manner when interacting with residents, showing respect for their privacy and dignity at all times.
Organization:
Ability to prioritize a varied workload and respond promptly to emergency repair requests.
DBS Check:
As this role is within a care home environment, an enhanced DBS check will be required.
