About the role



The Management Accountant will be responsible for preparing monthly management accounts and related financial reports including profit and loss, balance sheets, cash flows, variance analysis, key performance indicators, and supporting commentaries in line with agreed SLAs and reporting deadlines. The role plays a key part in delivering accurate financial insights that drive informed business decisions.

What will you do



Deliver accurate and timely management accounts and financial reports. Support the budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes. Ensure strong financial reconciliations and adherence to internal controls. Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to aid strategic decision-making. Prepare and present monthly management accounts including detailed variance analysis and commentary. Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations in line with group accounting policies. Partner with non-financial managers to communicate and interpret financial performance. Collaborate with budget holders to understand cost drivers and variances. Prepare financial reports and dashboards for senior management.

Key Responsibilities



As detailed below, the management account should be flexible and keen to learn within the role and adapt where necessary. Continuous improvement and accuracy of data is vital to ensure we play a key part of the overall business.

Manage month-end journals, accruals, and prepayments. Investigate and resolve balance sheet discrepancies. Support external audits by preparing and providing required information. Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register. Support VAT returns, audits, and other tax compliance activities. Assist in improving financial processes and controls to enhance efficiency. Support ad-hoc financial projects and analysis as needed. Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and support project-based work. Maintain accurate and compliant financial records.

Skills



The ability to work within a team is vital as tight deadlines and co-operation are a key part within the role. Linking with other teams throughout the business is actively encouraged and very rewarding. This helps to gain a better understanding of how all the departments integrate together to achieve the goals required.

Competencies



Strong accounting and analytical skills with high attention to detail. Advanced Excel proficiency (e.g., PivotTables, VLOOKUPs) and experience with accounting systems. Ability to interpret and communicate complex financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders. Strong communication and presentation skills. Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proactive mindset with a focus on process improvement and efficiency. Adaptable, collaborative, and solutions oriented.

Experience



Full/ Part-qualified ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent) Demonstrable experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally within management accounting. Solid understanding of management accounts, balance sheets, and financial controls.
